After rejecting BJP nomination for Lok Sabha elections, Bhojpuri star Pawan Singh takes another U-turn: ‘Will contest polls to fulfil promise’

Week after pulling out of the elections fray, Bhojpuri actor-singer Pawan Singh took a U-turn on Wednesday saying he will contest the Lok Sabha polls.

Singh, who had withdrawn his candidature from Asansol on March 3, just a day after he featured in the first list of 195 candidates announced by the BJP, took to X and wrote, “I will contest elections to fulfill the promise made to my society, people, people and mother. Your blessings and cooperation are expected.”

मैंअपने समाज जनता जनार्दन और माँ से किया हुआ वादा पूरा करने के लिए चुनाव लडूँगा

आप सभी का आशीर्वाद एवं सहयोग अपेक्षित है

जय माता दी

It was a surprise twist in West Bengal when Singh announced that he wouldn’t be contesting the elections after he had initially accepted the candidacy and thanked the BJP leadership the day before.

Singh had faced criticism from the Trinamool Congress regarding alleged derogatory remarks about Bengali women in some of his songs.

The actor had said in a social post on X. “I express my heartfelt gratitude to the top leadership of Bharatiya Janata Party. The party trusted me and declared me as the candidate from Asansol but due to some reason I will not be able to contest the elections from Asansol.”

Asansol is currently represented by veteran actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha of the Trinamool Congress, who will also seek reelection from the constituency in the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
