Eye on Lok Sabha polls, Rahul Gandhi to launch Manipur to Mumbai Bharat Nyay Yatra on January 14

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is set to embark on another yatra from January 14 to March 20, this time starting from the North-East and travel to the West, making it the lynchpin of his campaign for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Announcing the decision, Congress MP K C Venugopal said: “The Congress Working Committee, during its meeting, asked Rahul Gandhi to launch an East-West yatra, following which, he decided to respect the opinion of the CWC and do it. As such, he will be starting his yatra from January 14 from Manipur and end it in Mumbai. It will be called the Bharat Nyay Yatra.”

The yatra will be covering 14 states and 85 districts, the Congress said. They added that it will cover 6,200 km, and will traverse through Manipur, Nagaland, Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat before reaching Maharashtra.

Rahul Gandhi’s last Bharat Jodo Yatra was touted to be one of the game changers that helped the party register a thumping win in Karnataka. The impact of the Yatra was also seen in Telangana, albeit only in rural areas. Between October 23 and November 7, 2022, Rahul Gandhi crossed the state, with a large part of his route falling in the erstwhile Mahbubnagar district and covering essentially 14 Assembly constituencies. The Congress managed to wrest 12 of these from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which managed to hold on to only Gadwal and Alampur.
