Low temperatures along with dense fog likely over parts of India, flights from IGI airport delayed

As cold weather conditions, along with dense fog, prevailed over parts of northern India, the minimum temperatures ranged between 6 to 12 degrees Celsius.

Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh are likely to experience minimum temperature ranging between 6 to 10 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, with dense to very dense fog conditions during the early morning hours.

According to the weather agency, RAPID INSAT 3DR satellite imagery released by IMD showed fog layer spreading over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and North Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday morning. Moderate fog was reported in isolated pockets of West Uttar Pradesh, whereas shallow fog was expected in isolated pockets of Chandigarh, Bihar, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Tripura.

Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport experienced delays in both arrivals and departures for about 30 flights, including international, due to dense fog, news agency ANI reported. According to the news agency, the fog conditions are likely to affect more number of flights during the day.

Meanwhile, most parts of Rajasthan, East Uttar Pradesh, north Madhya Pradesh, some parts of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, are likely to experience a minimum temperature around 11-12 degrees Celsius.

Dense fog conditions are very likely to prevail over Rajasthan, north Madhya Pradesh, and Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on Tuesday.

Mumbai, meanwhile, recorded the coldest day of this season on Tuesday as the minimum (night) temperature at IMD Santa Cruz observatory stood at 18.7 degrees Celsius. According to the weather bureau, Mumbai’s night temperature may continue to range between 18 and 20 degrees for the rest of this week.

Light to moderate rainfall at isolated places are very likely over Kerala and Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Andaman and Nicobar islands and Lakshadweep for the next five days.

Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, Rayalaseema and Karnataka will also experience isolated to scattered light rainfall. The other parts of the country will witness mainly dry weather conditions.

The weather agency has issues a warning to the fishermen to not venture into Comorin area for the next five days, as strong winds with windspeed 40-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph are very likely to prevail over the area.
